Through his Writing Circle program, Scott has the unique ability of inspiring residents to openly express their feelings, thoughts and emotions and to begin to deal with some very difficult issues.  During his Writing Circle program residents are given a time limit to write about anything they want. Scott usually has them start with the words “I remember” or other such writing prompts and from there the residents can write about anything that may be on their minds. They are then given the choice to share their writings with the group. It is at this time that we see the residents open up the most. Residents are able to share traumatic events in their lives without fear of being judged. Even if the residents do not share their writings, they are able to write them down and, in a sense, get their feelings out. During this program the staff often join in as well and the residents are able to hear the staff share different events in their lives which assists with building positive relationships between residents and between residents and staff.   Scott takes the time to review each and every writing a resident authors and provides positive feedback. We have nominated Scott for several facility and statewide awards because of the many contributions he has made to the Lancaster County community as a whole, but more specifically to those youth within our care that he has impacted with his genuine reflections and faithful dedication to being there for them as a listening ear during some of their most challenging times.

Scott has become a pillar of therapeutic support for all those involved with our organization. Over the MANY years of interacting with Scott, I have become so enamored by his approach, wisdom, sincerity, and welcoming embrace he offers to all who engage in his programming. Scott is real and through this own vulnerability he is able to create environments that allow exploration and growth. More often than what Scott will take credit for, his involvement with our young men proves to be a gateway to therapeutic growth within our treatment programs. I truly have never met a more dedicated, honest, and humble person. We at Manos House simply cannot thank him enough for his service.

"Participating in The Writing Circle was "heart" opening to say the least. It was a way for me to connect to myself and my experiences with others in a way that I never thought would occur and for that I am grateful!"

I have been running programming in the juvenile justice system since 2012, and through all my travels I’ve been most impressed as well as influenced by Mr. Scott D. Feifer’s program, The “Writing Circle.”

Scott’s program is exceptional, and for me he is the GOAT! Thank you, Scott, for your dedication, service, and heart you have for the children, many times forgotten children, of the juvenile justice system!

The JUMP program is designed to help rising 9th grade students become familiar with the McCaskey Campus while preparing them academically, socially, and emotionally for the transition to high school. During JUMP, students participated in the Writing Circle Program, led by Mr. Scott Feifer.  He empowered students to reflect on their lives and goals through creative writing. At McCaskey we believe in the power of connections. Mr. Scott is able to connect students of all backgrounds and academic levels through his inspiring writing program.
